TMD Treatments

Neuromuscular Dentist in Orlando, Florida

Every case of TMD disorder is unique, and each must be addressed with a personalized treatment plan. Some of the options we might suggest for treatment include structural dental work, orthotics, or both.

Structural dental work

Many cases of TMD are as a result of damaged or missing teeth, which can subtly shift the alignment of the jaw, and over time, cause serious problems. In cases such as these, we will often recommend treatments such as:

In many cases, simply fixing existing dental issues such as decay, excessive tooth wear, and unevenly sized teeth can mitigate or even cure misalignment of the jaw joint completely.

Neuromuscular orthotics

In some cases of TMD, we may suggest devices known as neuromuscular orthotics, which you would wear on your lower jaw over a period of time. They would readjust and realign the structure of your mouth, and correct the alignment of your temporomandibular joint.

How we plan TMD treatments

The first step toward planning the appropriate treatment for TMD is to isolate the problem. Dr. Castellini will perform a detailed examination of the jaw joint function to determine whether there might be a problem. If a problem is detected, she will use advanced computerized diagnostic tools to take precise readings of your TMJ function and alignment.

Using these readings, she will evaluate your condition individually, and come up with the most effective, conservative treatment plan available to treat your specific condition.
