Dr. Matilde Castellini, founder of MedPlex Dental, sadly passed away in 2013. Dr Castellini, as a biological and neuromuscular dentist, dedicated her life to providing the best possible care, both professionally and personally, to her patients. Dr. Castellini came from a family of dentists, following in her mother’s footsteps. Her children, Roberto, Marco, Freddy and Laura, also dentists, now carry on the family tradition and her passion to help her patients, running the dental practice that she founded in 1990, following her philosophy and knowledge that made her patients love her so much.
If you have been given a diagnosis of serious illness, such as cancer or Lupus, you may be still trying to grasp the implications and wondering what to do. It can be a sudden shock, and there may be a lot of new information to read and learn. We can help with this situation.
Biological dentistry (also called holistic dentistry) is an approach to your dental care that looks at the whole body and your general health. The mouth, after all, is part of the body and shares the same blood circulation, nervous system, and nutritional status. Many research studies have established strong links between gum disease on the one hand and heart dysfunction, strokes, and diabetes on the other.
When we are diagnosed with a serious disease, it means, among other things, that the body has a build-up of toxicity and has become out of balance. Toxins can be removed from the body so that the immune system can function more effectively, and the first step is to remove metal from the mouth. Please see our page on Metal-Free Dentistry for more information.
“DO NO HARM…”
The essential follow-up for that first step is to refrain from putting any toxins into the mouth, as dental restorations or as food or drink. For our part, we run our holistic dentistry office in a way that excludes harmful substances from your dental care. Please see Your Safety in Dentistry for more details.
We also offer nutritional counseling and guidance to help you change your diet and establish comfortable new routines with your food and drinks.
LIVING IN A SEA OF CHEMICALS
In our modern world, we are surrounded by chemicals and inorganic minerals. We absorb or ingest them from the air we breathe, from our drinking water and food, and from products we use daily, such as toothpaste, mouthwashes, dish and laundry detergents, sanitizing products, makeup, lotions, shampoo, and a thousand other common household items.
As product ingredients, the general name for these chemicals is excipients. They are additives put into products to provide features such as color, fragrance, flavor, texture, or a longer shelf life. They do not contribute to our health and often the body is unable to excrete them. The kidneys and liver can gradually become blocked by a build-up of foreign chemicals and inorganic minerals. Little research has been done on the interactions of all these disparate chemicals or on their possible roles in causing disease.
One of the ways your body might become imbalanced is by blockages in the way energy flows through it. The nervous system uses electrical energy and electrical imbalances are called interference fields. There are many possible sources for these blocks:
– Scar tissue
– Poor nutrition
– Chronic stress
– Metal fillings
– Metal jewelry
-Toxic substances such as food dyes, Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO), and dioxins
Holistic dentistry is a growing field, and the public is gradually becoming more aware of its benefits. Please see Your Safety in Dentistry for more on how we operate our office to keep you safe and to optimize your dental and general health.

We run a dental practice and can diagnose and treat dental disease. We offer guidance and counseling for improved nutrition, but we are not medical doctors. Please see your physician for all other medical treatment and for any medications they might require.
